Contest Open!

Advisers:

Welcome to 2018! We are excited to announce that the KCM contest is now accepting your student entries. A lot of things have changed, and we would like to encourage

note-2762271__340

everyone to review the attached document carefully regarding new categories and policies. I urge you to create an account on Smarter Entry and begin submitting as early as possible before the submissions close Feb. 8, 2018.

Schools can create contest accounts per publication or per adviser. We are using Smarter Entry as our vendor, which requires you to pay online for your entries first, and then you upload the files to go with the entries you have purchased.

The good news is that you can go back and make any necessary changes on your submissions until the deadline. You need to make sure single entries that consist of multiple pages are saved as one single PDF file. Each file you upload counts as ONE entry and is charged accordingly. See the attached documentation for full category listings and more detailed instructions, etc. Please note the “2018_Entry_Audits.doc” file lists every contest category and division available this year. Each school needs to complete this and email it back to me.

The website: https://client.smarterentry.com/kcm

The Cost: $5 per individual entry and $15 for the overall category. Schools who submit 10 or more entries will receive a 10 percent discount on conference registration.

Following this year’s contest, we will need everyone’s help to provide constructive feedback for next year’s contest. Advisers will be invited to the fall retreat, Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, to discuss any proposed changes. All proposed changes need to be submitted in writing by July 1, 2018, to an officer in KCM. These will be compiled over the summer and made available for further input by all members before the fall retreat. You can share your ideas with me at any point.

At the 2017 fall retreat, it was established that the fall retreat will take place on the Saturday after the end of the state fair on odd years and on the Friday after the state fair ends on even years.

2018: Friday, Sept. 21

2019: Saturday, Sept. 21

2020: Friday, Sept. 25

2021: Saturday, Sept. 25

2022: Friday, Sept. 23

2023: Saturday, Sept. 23

Again, I thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we move through this first year online together.

Cheers!

Regina

2018 Contest Changes

Hi Fellow Advisers!

There will be some changes to the 2018 contest. The biggest change is that the majority of our contest has moved completely online. The vendor that we selected for the first year was the most cost-effective and allows schools to buy entries to the contest. In fact, you buy the entries online with a credit card, and then you proceed to upload them.

Because of this major change, we wanted to first make sure that all schools are able to use credit cards to make payments.

PLEASE EMAIL REGINA.CASSELL@WASHBURN.EDU AND SAY YES OR NO TO CREDIT CARDS.

The site will generate an immediate receipt for your records. Because of our tight deadline, we need to hear from any schools who are unable to pay through credit card as quickly as possible so we can work to make other arrangements.

There will be other updates coming along in the next several days as we hope to open the contest January 8.

This was also sent out as an email. If you did not receive it, please email Regina to make sure she has your correct address.

I look forward to hearing from everyone soon.

Time: 9:00 a.m. for the officer’s meeting, 10:00 a.m. for the entire KCM group

Location:
Hutchinson Community College
Shears Technology Center
Justice Theatre, Room 210
1300 N. Plum
Hutchinson, KS 67501

Details: The KCM officers will meet at 9:00 a.m. in Shears Technology Center, Room 205. The KCM group will gather at 10:00 a.m. for introductions, break out into committees, and then start the business meeting. If you have agenda items, please send them to Stacy Sparks.

Hotel: I’ve reserved a block of 10 rooms at the Comfort Inn & Suites here in town for Friday, Sept. 22. They have king suites or double rooms available for the price of $110 + tax. Call them prior to Sept. 8 to make your reservation at 620-669-2500 and mention the KCM room block to get that pricing.

RSVP: Please reply to Amber Brawner only, email brawnera@hutchcc.edu, so I can get a head count for refreshments and lunch.

It’s a busy time of the year but it takes a lot of people to make this conference happen for our students. Can’t wait to see everyone here in Hutch!
